{Saturday Series} Queen City Brunch

qc34
A chilly May morning called for warm brunch, so we ventured to Queen City Bakery. Located in downtown Sioux Falls, Queen City offers a unique atmosphere with brick walls, a vintage chandelier, and ample space to nibble on pastries and enjoy conversation with friends. Their breakfast/brunch menu varies slightly everyday, but routinely features muffins, scones, turnovers, quiche and biscotti among others. Items are first come, first served - so show up early for prime selection! We sampled from the daily offerings, and were delighted with the artisanal assortment. Quiche
Both versions of quiche that we sampled had flaky, buttery crust. This savory pastry is perfectly sized for one at 4 inches. The Asparagus & Swiss quiche was full of complex flavors and nutty nuances of the cheese. Next, we bit into the Ham & Cheddar, and our taste buds were instantly provided with a comfort-food feeling. Flavors vary, so keep an eye out for intriguing new options! We tried:
{Ham & Cheddar}
{Asparagus & Swiss}
    Fig & Goat Cheese Turnover
    qc12
    We luckily snagged the last turnover of the day. There was good reason for a low supply - this unexpected pairing of flavors was delightful. The taste of fig was subtle and matched well with the tartness of the goat cheese. We savored each bite and can't wait to order this item again.
    Flavored Latte
    The presentation alone when our lattes were served was remarkable. Thankfully they tasted just as incredible as they looked. Not too indulgent, they were ideal pairings for our sweet and salty picks from the menu. Order a large if you plan on staying awhile - they're served in bowls! We tried:
    {Almond}
    {Toffee Nut}
      Bourbon Pecan Bar

      Hands down the best bar we've had in ages, the Bourbon Pecan Bar was thick and rich without being overtly sugary. Bites of this dessert between sips of latte made for a sublime close to brunch. *Lace top, headband and necklace featured in photos can be found at AMaVo Boutique in Sioux Falls.
